IN THIS LESSON:
A brave beginning to your career reset.
In this opening lesson, your coach Jackie sets the tone for your journey with warmth, gratitude, and purpose. She’ll thank you for taking the bold step to invest in yourself—reminding us how powerful (and rare) it is to pause, reflect, and choose growth. Together, you'll explore the importance of starting from a mindset of abundance, discover the “hula hoop of control” framework, and begin building boundaries that protect your energy and peace. Jackie will also share how this course fits into a broader ecosystem of career support services designed to help you lead with clarity and confidence.

Hello, and welcome to Reigniting Your Career Spark with Radical Spark Coaching.
Gosh, I am so excited that you are here. The fact that you have signed on and signed up is already a triumph. Congratulations. Gold star.
During this time, it’s so important for us to begin our engagement from a place of abundance and gratitude. Because if someone else in your life was actively saying, “I want to advocate for your gifts, strengths, and values—and I’m going to pay for it, and I also want to make time for you,” you would say, “Oh gosh, that’s amazing. Thank you so much.”
But what I want to remind you is that you’re doing that for yourself, and that’s ten thousand times harder. It’s so hard to advocate for ourselves. It’s so hard to invest in ourselves sometimes. And it’s so hard to make the time. So again, the fact that you’re doing this already—gold star. Congratulations. This is so important for us to establish. This is about you, and this is for you.
My name is Jackie Hanselman Sergi, and as the founder of Radical Spark Coaching, I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many amazing clients—many who are leaders who identify as women leaders of color and working parents. And that right there is the reason I started Radical Spark Coaching.
For me, when I was a senior executive, there weren’t coaches who had all of those parts or understood all of those parts that were part of me. And so I wanted to create a coaching experience that was grounded in abundance and a whole-person approach so that people would feel as though they had abundant space.
We created Radical Spark to be that space for leaders, for organizations, and for people who just need that moment to understand that there are so many possibilities—and that we’re often the ones holding ourselves back.
I have a unique background in that I’ve worked in a variety of sectors and spaces. I’ve been an executive coach for many years, working in philanthropy, social justice, nonprofit education, and corporate sectors—working with hackers and engineers, as well as in corporate beauty.
I get to coach in such great spaces, both for career development and leadership. But before that, I also worked as an executive search leader, leading searches and working with organizations to find their leaders, while also coaching candidates so the experience could be mutually beneficial and everyone could move forward to do good work.
I’ve also worked in social justice, education advocacy, expansion, and building teams and organizations to be successful. I’ve worked in programs, talent strategy, philanthropy and grantmaking, as well as corporate spaces like sales, hospitality, risk management, and even television.
So I’ve had a little bit of dabbling in a variety of places.
And here’s what I know to be true.
First, relationships are our capital. We’re going to talk about that throughout our time together.
Second, skills and strengths are transferable. It’s just how we understand the value of what we do that allows those strengths to become transformational in other spaces. But we have to learn how to talk about them from a place of abundance and impact. And that’s something we’re going to work on together.
Throughout this course, we’re going to navigate a variety of spaces. It’s so important that you approach this work from a place of curiosity, compassion, and trust.
And when we talk about trust, the trust is that you will get this right—because you will. This is your space. We’re going to make that space happen for you.
A big part of this process is also understanding that you have what I call a hula hoop of control. That hula hoop represents the things that are truly yours to control. Often, that includes your words, your actions, your behaviors, your learning, and what we’ll talk a lot about—your possibilities of yes. What gets to live inside that hula hoop.
Everything outside of that is noise. Those are the things that are out of your control.
So throughout our time together, I’m going to ask you to be really thoughtful about what is truly within your hula hoop of control. What do you think is happening? What do you feel is happening? And what do you know in this moment?
Because it’s very easy to focus on the past—thinking, “I hope this doesn’t happen again,” or “This is what happened before.” And it’s just as easy to think about the future from a place of fear or scarcity—“What if this happens?” or “How am I going to do this?”
Instead, I’m going to invite you to sit inside this beautiful hula hoop of control and be present in what is possible right now.
That allows you to stay grounded in what you can influence, and it allows us to take an inventory of where you are today so we can build a future plan that is truly yours.
So why is Radical Spark Coaching making the pivot to creating an online course and additional tools to support managers, leaders, and individuals?
Well, we realized that just like we ask our coaching clients to do, we also need to map to the moment.
I’ve built an amazing coaching practice through one-on-one and organizational work around career and leadership. But it became really important for me to share these tools and resources with people who may not be able to work with me one-on-one.
These are powerful tools. And right now, many of you are in a moment of learning, transition, or actively seeking new roles. We want to make sure you have resources that help you approach this work from an abundant space—and that you have a place where you can feel seen, heard, and supported.
This course is designed to help guide you as you explore who you are.
We’ll be working through the WHO framework. Together, we’ll explore what your JAM is, how you’re growing and elevating your skills and gifts, and how others become part of your journey—and how they come to know the value you bring.
You’ll also have resources and tools to help you reflect and grow, focusing less on getting everything “right” and more on getting it real.
That’s why we created this course.
We want you to be in control. We want you to have the resources you need. And the reality is, most of us don’t have time to do this work during normal business hours—which is when I typically coach.
These moments often happen late at night after you’ve put the kids to bed, or at two in the morning when you wake up thinking, “How am I going to get that resume to the person who asked for it?” Or, “I want to apply for that job.” Or even, “Oh my gosh, this job is killing my soul. I need to get out of it. What do I do?”
I want you to have a resource you can return to in those moments.
Everything in this course is something you can come back to and revisit. The resources are living documents. They will grow and change with you.
And whenever you return to them, my hope is that you feel seen, heard, and supported.
